DRIFTY – Drift Fishing Boat
Why a Drift Boat?
A drift boat is the ultimate tool for fly fishing rivers — anywhere in the world. Its hull is designed to let water slip around it rather than push against it, which means an experienced rower can control speed, angle, and position with precision you simply can’t get from a motorized boat.
That matters here more than anywhere.
Our river in Panama is essentially a tropical tailwater — a tidal system with a massive hydroelectric dam at the top and 40 miles of river before it meets the Pacific. The result is big, unpredictable current swings from the upper river down through the mid-sections. In a traditional boat, some of these zones become nearly unfishable when the current rips… which, of course, is exactly when the tarpon like to eat.
A drift boat changes everything.
You can slow the boat down, hold your line, and get multiple shots at rolling tarpon in fast water instead of blowing past them. And because you’re not relying on a motor, you’re also the stealthiest thing on the river — sliding into fishy water without announcing your arrival.
It’s simple:
In this fishery, a drift boat isn’t just an option. It’s the advantage.
