Why Us

Panama’s premier

fly-fishing destination

The Drift Boat Tarpon Club is exactly what it sounds like — a fly-fishing operation built around drift boats and big, wild tarpon in a place no one expected them to be.

When the Panama Canal was built, humans didn’t just create a shipping route… they accidentally opened the door for tarpon to slip into the Pacific. And they didn’t just show up  — they thrived. Today, the same fish you’d chase in the Atlantic are reproducing and abundant on the Pacific side of Panama.

That’s where we come in.

We’re the first all-inclusive tarpon fly-fishing lodge in the world to run drift boats for these fish. Our program takes everything we love about western-style streamer fishing — the boats, the angles, the shots — and drops it into a tropical river system loaded with tarpon, snook, and machaca.

If you like pounding banks and moving water in Colorado, this is that… just with fish that pull a whole lot harder.

We’re proud to be Panama’s premier fly-fishing destination — small, authentic, guide-run,  and built entirely around one thing: giving anglers a truly unique way to chase tarpon.

A Life Built Around Fly Fishing, Family, and Adventure
My name is Tyler John Morris, and I am proud to call Grand Junction, Colorado, my hometown. Growing up in Colorado, hunting and fishing have always been central to my life. For the past ten years, I have worked as a professional fly fishing guide, sharing my passion for the outdoors and the art of angling with clients from all walks of life.
Seventeen years ago, I met my wife, who hails from Panama. Our meeting not only changed my life but also opened up new horizons for my passion. Through her, I discovered the incredible opportunities for fly fishing in Panama, and I began traveling and exploring the country’s unique waters. Together, we have two wonderful children and have fully embraced a lifestyle that bridges both of our home countries.
We have chosen to split our lives between Panama and Colorado, allowing our family to continue our shared enthusiasm for the fly fishing industry in both places. This passion inspired us to found the Drift Boat Tarpon Club in Panama, a venture dedicated to providing unforgettable angling experiences and promoting sustainable fishing practices in the region.
In addition to my work in Panama, I am a licensed outfitter in the state of Colorado. I guide on the iconic Colorado River as well as several Stillwater lakes, ensuring that anglers have access to some of the best fly fishing opportunities in the American West.
Whether in the mountains of Colorado or the tropical waters of Panama, I am dedicated to sharing my love for fishing, adventure, and family with others—helping to foster the next generation of passionate anglers.

A Lodge Built for Anglers

We’re not a resort with a fishing option — we’re a fishing lodge, and that’s the whole point. Small group sizes, comfortable casitas, great food from local hands, and a crew that’s fully invested in giving you a memorable week on the water.
We keep things simple, personal, and focused on what matters:
good people, good food, and a river full of fish!

Testimonials

Had the pleasure of going out with the Drift Boat Tarpon Club in January for a few days on the river. What an amazing trip it was! The scenery was unbelievable, floating down the river through the dense jungle listening to howler monkeys and jungle sounds, catching tarpon was a dream come true! Having never caught or even fished for a Tarpon before I was nervous I was never gonna get one to the boat, but thankfully ( with the expert advice and instruction from captain Tyler) I landed the very first Tarpon I hooked up with. Side note, with my excitement and new found Tarpon skills I immediately trout set the next fish and ended up with my fly in my lap lol! Over the few days on the river I caught a number of Tarpon, snook, and a few mechaca. It was overall an amazing trip and I'm looking forward to going with drift boat tarpon club in the future.

Fly Fishing & Tarpon Fishing

Friendly Guide

At Drift Boat Tarpon Club, our guides are the heartbeat of the operation—friendly, easygoing, and genuinely excited to share these rivers with you. They’re the kind of people who make you feel at home in the boat within minutes, quick to laugh, patient with beginners, and fully dialed in with experienced anglers. Every day on the water feels like fishing with someone who’s just as invested in your success as you are.

Extreme Local Knowledge

Their extreme local knowledge comes from a lifetime spent on these rivers. They grew up learning the tides before they learned to drive, reading mangrove edges like street signs, and understanding how the jungle breathes with the weather. They know where the tarpon roll on a low river, which bends hold snook on a cloudy morning, and exactly when the machaca are about to go full chaos.

All-Inclusive

From the moment you step off the plane, your guides and crew take care of everything. Your week includes all meals prepared by our local cocinera, who cooks the kind of traditional Panamanian dishes that hit perfectly after a long day on the river—fresh fish, hearty stews, rice, plantains, and the comfort foods anglers always end up talking about on the flight home. Cold drinks and boat snacks are packed daily, so you’re never without water, sodas, fruit, or something salty when the afternoon heat settles in. Back at the lodge, your private casita is clean, quiet, air-conditioned, and set up for early mornings and easy evenings—two beds, a private bathroom, WiFi, and plenty of space to spread out gear. You show up ready to fish, relax, and enjoy the jungle; we handle the rest mode. This isn’t guesswork — it’s home
